Keith - App for Sharing Stuff - 3/12/12

Bron,

What you describe makes me think you need an app that
helps you keep track of your stuff in a way you want to
think about it.

Jarvis and I talked about calendars which we mostly don't
even write down, except for events far off rather than real
soon.  You've suggested not much to keep track of.

Bron - Sharing Calendars - 3/11/12

MMBM

If someone had access to my current calendar – it would not help them – because - I don’t have my stuff in there.  It can be tedious to track/maintain.
If I did happen to maintain the practice of a perfectly updated calendar, there could be privacy issues around what is shared.
Those two points notwithstanding, I’m convinced of the need to visually place targets to future dates, with cross-vision.
I think our scheduling, production, output, deadlines – suffer - if we are not linked to a type of calendar access.

In my note I mentioned “Calendar Profiles”.
This would conceptually allow a person to share some things, while keeping other things otherwise unshared.
The basic things I’d like to both share and access, are things like holiday travel, blacked-out rolling appointments, basic life-events, or goals that involve me.
What I have not done yet, is figure out how to establish multiple “scheduling overlays” in which I could selectively share parts of my own calendar.

Overlay 1 – shared - CRM business
Overlay 2 – notshared - Personal time for decision and thought
Overlay 3 – shared - Charity and Service (Coaching, CERT)
Overlay 4 – shared - Athletic, health and fitness (League, Class, Gym)
Overlay 5 – shared - Language (desire to learn Spanish, Sign, Piano)
Overlay 6 – notshared - Recreational reading
Overlay 7 – notshared - Targeted study
Overlay 8 – notshared - CRM certification
Overlay 9 – notshared - Asset based action – development of Writing
Overlay 10 – shared - Development of Starcraft2 revenue stream
Overlay 11 – shared - Brody, Family, Holidays
Overlay 12 – shared - Bucket List

Perhaps accessing my calendar is more important than me accessing other calendars, I couldn’t say.
I just feel that doing more with a calendar will be key for me to make headway on my own different goals.
While that is happening, others will need my calendar to effectively liaise with me, more so than in the past.

Keith - Google Gmail/Documents/Calendar - 3/6/12

Bron,

I'm not sure what you find attractive about DropBox.

Since you have a Google Gmail account, you also
have easy access to Google Documents which sync
without the need for any client software such as
DropBox.

I use Google Chrome as my standard browser, so
I suppose I feel like everybody else does that too.
I like the fact that a single Chrome window allows
tabs to Gmail, Documents, etc. with a single login
to my Google account.

Bron,

I've never found it very useful to do any online shared
calendar stuff.  I do keep some stuff like appointments
in my Google Calendar with automatic sync between
my computers and my phone, but mainly I live off a
paper calendar.  I guess my approach stems from the
fact that a lot of my events have only vague times like
"tomorrow afternoon." which doesn't exactly fit into an
electronic calendar.

Bron,

After trying it, I see that a Google+ Hangout has the
screen share stuff as well.  It looks to me like this
is the way to go.  When you are signed in to Google+
and when you are looking at the Stream, there is a
thing at the upper right where you can start a hangout.
This will invite the users you choose to join the hangout.

Bron - Screen Share - 3/5/12

Keith/Jarvis

Awesome feature on skype- screen share I can’t wait to test that.
I think Skype supports our team of three, but doesn’t scale well also lacks the email-invitation (important to success of the practice, my opinion).  Part of the format of the meetings, in my hopes, would be for us all 1) to be able to invite others into different discussions, who may or may-not have skype.. 2) have an understanding about how each others schedules work.. for example I could put scheduled calls in any day but I do favor some over others.

What about sharing calendar profiles, to keep a running log of open topics?  For example I have some different types of content about family, but also about a small CRM business which is running, ish., and also need a platform for athletic coaching which is currently in season.  If I knew people were interested, I could send out a notice to call a phone number, enter a PIN#, and then be on a call that has moderation and mute. Lately I’ve been trying to do more creative stuff by linking project-type goals and stuff, into calendar-type software which more accurate reflects the way my time might be invested and/or consumed. I find myself making a lot of custom-calendars with Visio in order to keep my obligations straight for periods of 4-6 weeks.

Thinking I can start putting more into my calendar but thinking I’d like to extend the possibilities a bit in terms of how it all goes from pre- to post-call and carry forward of topics.

Is everyone cool with using Dropbox as a shared folder that lives on the web?  Having cloud-storage has quickly taken a critical role in my connection to my clients !

Keith - problems with a slow pace - 2/29/12

Bron,

You might take a look at this:

http://www.fastcompany.com/1821798/the-6-near-fatal-mistakes-we-made-in-year-1-and-built-a-company-anyway

You've suggested that a slow pace of discussion is fine,
but this article goes into how/why that easily leads to
a lack of focus/resolve.

Keith - Alternative to phone call - 2/22/12

Bron,

Take a look at this:

https://plus.google.com/u/0/107226127526541403399/posts/dyGYG7QwVZ6

It's an example from a guy who runs weekly meetings
using the Google+ hangout infrastructure.

There's also a competing Google technology here:

https://www.google.com/moderator/

Anyway, I'm suggesting that we could do better than
a shared phone call, without needing any special
client software to support it.

I have a Google+ circle called Following which
contains Google Developers and Android Developers,
which I find an interesting source of info about
stuff like this.

Bron - Phone call format - 2/21/12

Keith, Jarvis, Tom

I’d like to suggest a shared format for communication moving forward – a shared call on perhaps an every-other month basis.
I’d like to be the initial administrator for ensuring this call will happen, but perhaps rotating the leadership function in time.
Is it possible that the 4 of us can clear a bimonthly time-slot for ongoing discussion, and if so when best in a week would that happen?
I’d like this call to be a calendar event with agenda and minutes, with goals and action items, and 4-way input and participation.
Initially I’d like to limit the participation to 4 members with the understanding that there is as much flexibility as there needs to be.
Thoughts??
